NSFAS Reborn: Another Ministerial Committee
The Minister for Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, has published the terms of reference for a Ministerial Committee to the business processes, systems and capacity of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, and make recommendations for a future model of administering student financial aid. The same Minister last appointed a similar committee to investigate NSFAS in 2009. In 2018, Dr Naledi Pandor who was then the Minister of Higher Education and Training appointed Dr Randall Carollissen as the NSFAS Administrator. Dr Nzimande extended the term of Dr Carolissen. Statistics South Africa released its research report detailing inequality in South Africa over the last number of years. A significant finding from the research shows that "There have been some areas of progress, but aggregate inequality has remained resiliently high." You may view the full Report here.
2020 Ranking of National Higher Education Systems
This report presents the results for the ninth annual ranking of national systems of higher education undertaken under the auspices of the Universitas 21 (U21) group of universities. Fifty national systems of higher education, from all continents, are evaluated across 24 indicators.
